Moonlighter's studio pulls ReVamp's public playtest over AI cloning fears
Digital Sun is moving the first test to Discord on 29 October, with a public one hoped for around January.
Digital Sun, the Valencia studio behind Moonlighter, has dropped plans for a public Steam playtest of its next game, ReVamp, because it's worried a build could be reverse-engineered and cloned with AI tools before the real game is out.
In a post on 19 October the studio said it had been concerned by "recent news of games being reverse-engineered, cloned and published before the original is even out", and that with launch months away a large public build felt like too big a risk.
The first playtest now runs on Digital Sun's Discord from 29 October, and the studio hopes to open a public playtest around January. It also said it hopes platforms keep strengthening protections for original work, because showing games early is how indies get noticed.
VGC notes the move comes days after Decomp.dev, a big game decompilation site, said it was winding down, partly because of bad actors using AI to hijack and release in-development projects.
