SonicFox pulls out of Nexcon over an AI-generated flyer of them
The organiser apologised and said they couldn't afford artists. SonicFox forgave him but still won't attend.
Fighting game pro Dominique "SonicFox" McLean has cancelled their appearance at Nexcon 2026, a gaming, anime and creator convention in Norman, Oklahoma, on 14 and 15 November, after seeing promotional art that used AI to generate their likeness.
"I absolutely refuse to have my likeness be AI generated and my interest in attending as a special guest has dropped to 0," SonicFox posted on 20 October, later adding that the contract was terminated.
Ty Bailey, a founder of organiser Ninjutsu Entertainment, posted a video taking responsibility for the flyer. Kotaku reports he said the team couldn't afford real artists, and asked SonicFox to reconsider.
SonicFox replied that they forgave him but still wouldn't attend: "Use the money you offered me in contract to hire artists, and maybe next year I'll reconsider."
