Itch.io says the number of game pages created on its store each day has doubled in the past two months. Its graph, posted on Bluesky on 31 Oct, 7:51pm PT (1 Nov, 1:51pm AEST), shows about 3,000 a day in August rising to over 6,000 by 30 Oct, Polygon reports.
"The number of downloads and purchases has not doubled," itch.io added. Asked what was behind the rise, it replied "take a guess" with a robot emoji. Polygon notes itch.io already asks developers to disclose AI use.
Photite covered Valve saying it won't gatekeep AI-made games on Steam but is working on visibility, and Anthropic telling Claude to stop recreating existing games.
