Valve doesn't plan to block games made with AI on Steam, two of its Steam business team members told developers at Steam Indie Connect in South Korea, according to Inven's report. "We don't want to be gatekeepers telling developers which tools they should or shouldn't use," Tom Giardino said, as VGC and Eurogamer report.
Asked about developers getting threats that someone would use AI to release a clone of their game first, Giardino said Valve would look into reported cases but that extortion was mainly a matter for police. He told developers to keep adding features and personality so a game is harder to copy.
On complaints about low-quality games at the latest Steam Next Fest, Marc Wilkinson said Next Fest shows games at random for the first two days before personalised recommendations start. "We recognize that the trade-off is some low-quality games get exposed," he said. "We are fully aware of the situation, and a significant number of people are thinking about how to solve this problem."
