Star Trek Online players have gathered in-game to remember Sir Patrick Stewart, who died on 29 Oct aged 86. About 40 to 50 Galaxy-class ships formed an honour guard outside Earth Spacedock with fireworks, while players held torches at Starfleet Academy and on Qo'noS, Kotaku reports.

Kotaku says the game, which usually has about 1,200 players online at once, rose to around 2,000. Some players are now asking developer Cryptic for a permanent memorial, such as an explorable Château Picard.

Cryptic posted its own tribute on X, and the official Star Trek Online site published "A Tribute to Absent Friends".
