Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson has explained more about Grand Theft Auto VI's Criminal Profile in an interview with Edge magazine, as reported by PC Gamer. The profile tracks how Lucia and Jason behave on a scale from "Professional" to "Irredeemable", shown with angel and devil icons.
It isn't asking you to play a saint. A professional criminal might knock an opponent out instead of killing them, or try intimidation or a bribe before reaching for a gun. PC Gamer reports Rockstar has confirmed the profile affects how the story plays out, and that small acts of kindness can pull your rating back.
"There isn't a right or wrong way to play this game, but consistent actions may have an impact in terms of how the world reacts to you and how the narrative plays out," Nelson says. IGN first saw the system in its exclusive August preview, describing it as an upgraded take on Red Dead Redemption 2's Honor system that works alongside the Wanted level. Escalating a fight you could have walked away from changes your profile, and police get a description of you, your car, your clothes and whether you're travelling as a couple.
GTA 6 is due on 19 Nov on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a score by French duo Justice.
