id Software co-director Marty Stratton says the Doom studio is working more closely than ever with MachineGames, the Wolfenstein and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle developer. He spoke at a press event for Doom: The Dark Ages' Revelations DLC, as reported by IGN and PC Gamer.
"We're doing great," Stratton said. "Not to handwave the [layoffs] away … everybody knows we had about half of our studio exit as part of that." He said there was "a very deliberate effort" to keep the studio viable across game development and its technology department.
"We're working more closely with MachineGames than ever," he added. He said both teams have "incredibly talented engineers", and that the closer work on technology started earlier this year, before the layoffs.
Neither studio has announced a new game. IGN and PC Gamer both note MachineGames is rumoured to be making a third Wolfenstein, and PC Gamer reports the cuts hit id's Frankfurt office, which worked on its id Tech engine.
