Obsidian Entertainment opened a PC controller-support public test for Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire on 4 Nov, the studio said on its news page. You can play either game from character creation to the end credits with a controller, including Deadfire naval combat, in Real-Time with Pause and Turn-Based Mode, and hot-swap to mouse and keyboard at any time.
Obsidian says Deadfire's Turn-Based Mode has been rebuilt with the Pillars 1 changes: turns follow character speed, combat is more lethal, and swapping weapons or drinking potions no longer spends your action. You can also turn Turn-Based Mode on or off mid-playthrough outside combat. Xbox and PlayStation pads, Steam Deck and Steam Big Picture are supported.
Steam players opt into the public_beta branch; GOG uses the Public Beta channel; Xbox on PC joins through Insider Hub. Australian Steam Deck owners will want the Gamepad with Joystick Trackpad template Obsidian lists. Expect bugs: Obsidian says it is a public test ahead of a full release.
