The Steam version of NieR: Automata can demand far more free space than expected after a 6 Nov language update, Square Enix's NieR PR account said the same day. The official post confirms the install-size glitch and says developers are investigating the cause and working on a fix.
AUTOMATON and Dexerto report the same advisory and put the mistaken Steam requirement around 366GB, up from roughly 50GB, after Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean support landed. AUTOMATON says a temporary workaround is to uncheck every DLC under Steam → Properties → DLC so the base game downloads first, then re-tick DLC afterward; a finished install still lands near 40–50GB once the files are written.
Australian Steam players who only need the base game can keep DLC unticked until Square Enix ships the fix. If you already own the packs, install the base game first rather than fighting the 366GB gate in one hit.
